Project 1: Form & Function

The Expression of Truth/Beauty

Project 1 contains the principles of form and function with the use of existing bridges. The discussion of this concept is if the main beauty of a building's form should truthfully express its function or to have the independency of its own work. This project will analyze this relationship through the designs of different bridges around the world creating a functional mechanism.

Inspirations

The bridges below are chosen prototypes to create and illustrate the concept of form and function. The use of items within a household has developed these bridges into something more complex and unique, continuing to preserve the original beauty.

Conceptual Combination Table

The 3x3 chart below is a combination of household tools with existing bridges. For each prototype, I have designed a mechanism that allows for a 30'x40' passage way. Incorporating common items into the designing of bridges has allowed me to create a unique, but realistic plan throughout this project.

Preliminary Design

Using the tool, corkscrew, and an existing bridge, I have designed a functional and realistic passage with the concepts of form and function.
